A character that changes ownership, no matter how, must have its ownership transferred over on the masterlist. The masterlist is final when it comes to determine who officially owns which design and how they obtained it.
We consider that members can estimate the price of the art they have created for a character and add it to the price of a Devoma when reselling said Devoma. Whether or not this price is a fair price is up to the buyer's discretion. That price must be disclosed when notifying the masterlist.
However, a design that has been traded or gifted once cannot be resold. Designs that have been gifted can be traded as long as the current owner clearly discloses that the design was gifted to them. It is recommended that the current owner checks with the user that have gifted them said design if that is okay with them.
"Please do not make your own."
I've designed Devomas in such a way that they are very easy to obtain. That is just something I implemented in the species from its conception and something that I will never change.
But, if one still feels the need to make an off-brand Devoma (referred to as "not-Devoma" from this point onward) for whatever reason, I won't stop them. If you come across an not-Devoma, I'll ask you to not report the maker / owner unless they are actively trying to scam those interested in the species, for exampleby passing them as approved Devomas. In which case I'll post an announcement warning members of their activities and make sure that they are banned from species-dedicated spaces. In no case should you harass anyone that makes or owns a not-Devoma; this will earn you warnings and bans.
"Not-Devomas" cannot be registered in the masterlist unless they have an MYO slot with the appropriate mutations attached. They are also banned from events and owners will be asked to refrain from talking about them as real Devomas in the discord server and other dedicated spaces. (In this regard, they fall under the umbrella of "non-devoma-affiliated species" and will be treated as such.)
There Be Lore
Devoma live in a world that have an official universe with official rules ruling that world, described in the Anatomy and Lore pages of this site. I frequently refer to this as "the canon" and I recommend members of the species to pay mind to it. All events are written with the assumption that all Devomas are lore-friendly; because of that, entries to events can be refused on the basis of not being canon-compliant and rewards for said entries will not be received.
Outside of that single consequence, there is no official sanction for not following the lore. For example, if you wish to talk about your Devoma in a Dungeon and Dragon campaign where you play them as the party healer, you are allowed to do so on the official server. You will not receive any strike for it.
Unless one goes against the god-modding rule (see: General Guidelines), of course.
